Shelby County Commissioner Tami Sawyer represents District 7 in Memphis, TN and is the former chair of the Law Enforcement committee. She is also a candidate to be Mayor of Memphis and the first woman Mayor. She is Managing Director, Executive Affairs at Teach For America - Memphis. Sawyer is an active contributor to the continued movement for social justice and racial equity in the South and has been featured on major outlets such as CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera and Huffington Post. Sawyer was recognized by Ebony Magazine in the 2018 Power 100 list. Sawyer is the first Speaker in Residence of Clayborn Temple. Sawyer founded #takeemdown901, the successful movement to remove Confederate statues in Memphis. Sawyer is Education Co-Chair of the NAACP Memphis Branch and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated and The Links, Incorporated. Sawyer is a graduate of University of Memphis and attended Howard University School of Law.
