In 2010, Shelby County Government through its Division of Planning and Development, was awarded two U,.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfield Assessment Grants for a total of $400,000. $200,000 of the total amount awarded is earmarked to assess sites for hazardous contaminants, and the second grant of $200,000 is earmarked to assess sites for petroleum pollutants.
This effort is a collaboration between the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development, Center City Commission , Rhodes College and the Wolf River Conservancy.
