Mayor Responsibilities
The Role of the Mayor
The office of the mayor in Shelby County is an elected position with a four-year term. The mayor is responsible for the budgeting and strategic planning for various Shelby County government bureaus.
Acting as a Resource
The Shelby County mayor serves as a resource for other elected officials in Shelby County, especially the mayors of other towns and cities within the county:- City of Bartlett
- City of Germantown
- City of Lakeland
- City of Memphis
- City of Millington
- Town of Arlington
- Town of Collierville
Working With Our Citizenry
The mayor also routinely meets with citizens groups and individuals to develop an understanding of issues or problems with county services, proposals, and projects.Citizens provide the mayor new ideas and assist by serving on several boards and commissions that promote and improve the quality of life for those who live and work in Shelby County. Although the Shelby County mayor is directly accountable to citizens in the unincorporated areas of the county, all Shelby County citizens may vote for the mayor and may benefit from the various county government bureaus.
