Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Community Engagement and Outreach is to develop, promote, and enhance mechanisms for increased collaboration, communication, and supports with internal and external partners and consumers.

Our Vision

The vision of the Office of Community Engagement and Outreach is an informed community empowered to access and utilize resources offered by Shelby County Government’s Division of Community Services.

Our Focus Areas

Clinical and Strategic Partnerships

Clinical and Strategic Partnerships supports the Division of Community Services by developing/enhancing services and work flows that are customer driven and clinically sound.  Emphasis is placed on assuring that service delivery is trauma informed, culturally sensitive, and managed in a way that encourages customer participation and success.

Direct service programs offered by the Division of Community Services are leveraged by internal and external partnerships which include social service agencies, local law enforcement, and existing broad based collaborative action groups.  New informal and formal working relationships will be established to complement current Division services and to identify and address unmet community needs.

Early Childhood and Youth 

The Shelby County Office of Early Childhood & Youth service as collective impact partner supporting strategic initiatives prenatally to career, advises policymakers, and promotes community understanding that all children deserve to be healthy, safe, and nurtured.

Multicultural and Hispanic Affairs

Multicultural and Hispanic Affairs serves as a liaison between Shelby County Government and the business community, faith-based organizations, community groups, and individuals by providing technical assistance regarding language barriers and access to services.

Veterans’ Services

Veterans’ Services fulfills President Lincoln’s commitment to ensure veterans and their families receive needed assistance. The staff assists veterans and their families with:

  • Burial benefits
  • Dependents' educational assistance
  • Education and training
  • Filing claims for disability pension, dependency, and indemnity compensation
  • Guaranty home loans
  • And other concerns
