UT-TSU Extension Shelby County

Functions & Responsibilities

The UT-TSU Extension Shelby County Service is a partnership between the Shelby County government, Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee, and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Its function is to help the diverse population of Shelby County adapt to a rapidly changing society and improve the lives of families and individuals through an educational process that uses science-based knowledge. The focus is on issues and needs relating to:

  • Agriculture and the environment
  • Economic security
  • Family stability
  • Food safety, quality, and health
  • Management of natural resources
  • Youth development

UT-TSU Extension Shelby County Committee

The UT-TSU Extension Shelby County Committee is appointed by the county mayor and confirmed by the county's Board of Commissioners. It is tasked with overseeing certain funds from County Extension appropriations.
