Functions & Services
The Central Records Department is the information center of Juvenile Court. All cases begin and return to this department, where the personnel are responsible for building, housing, and securing maintenance of all court records. Currently, there are over one million records being housed in Central Records.
Department Expansion
In recent months, the creation of new files have increased due to the overflow of new caseloads in Juvenile Court. As the information link to the general public, social services, attorneys, and all law enforcement agencies, this department is obligated to provide accurate and appropriate information in handling and processing all court-related cases.
Expansion in the Central Records Department has been completed to accommodate the extensive demands of its personnel and to continue providing quality customer service to the taxpayers of Shelby County.
Central Records Department personnel are responsible for building, housing and securely maintaining all Juvenile Court records. Currently there are over 1,372,228 records housed in the Clerk’s Office. In 2016, there were 6,330 legal records created and 2,100 social records created. This department also serves to provide assistance and information to the general public, court personnel, social service agencies, attorneys and law enforcement agencies by providing accurate and appropriate information required in the processing and handling of cases through the Juvenile Court.
