Shelby County Government and the nonprofit sector share common goals -- to address local needs and to improve the lives of Shelby County Residents. In order to improve our collective work, the county created a platform for collaboration, sharing of information, and advocacy on behalf of the communities and people that we serve. We want a constructive way for government and nonprofit leaders to interact and communicate directly to identify problems and create coordinated solutions.

The Nonprofit Committee aims to strengthen communication, coordination, and partnerships between Shelby County Government and the nonprofit sector, all toward meeting the needs of residents more efficiently.

Participation

In order to have an open process to support nonprofits small and large, nonprofit participation will be voluntary, inclusive, and unbiased. Any active nonprofit with 501c3 status in Shelby County will be welcome. All nonprofits may send only one representative.

The Nonprofit Committee will be comprised of four Subcommittees and one Core Committee. The Subcommittees will meet quarterly to discuss concerns and priorities for their sectors. The Chairs of each Subcommittee will together form the Core Committee along with members from the Mayor's office, Momentum Nonprofit Partners, and the Manager of Community Partnerships. This Core Committee will meet quarterly and identify key priorities and concerns addressing all nonprofits and residents, address overarching goals and create an annual report that tackles challenges and offers suggestions and solutions.

Subcommittees

Leadership meetings and subcommittees will each meet quarterly with occasional additional meetings as needed.
