Listening to Youth Voices

In 2017, during her final speech as First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama focused on encouraging the youth. She said, “I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong. So don't be afraid—you hear me, young people? Don't be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered.”
Ms. Obama’s message resonates with the Youth & Family Resource Center (YFRC). As we continue to shape the YFRC service model, we are “focused” on listening to the voices that we serve. That is why our YFRC Advisory Board includes two youth members, who will ensure that “we hear them.” Our youth board members represent very different life experiences, but they are united in their commitment to service. And the YFRC will continue to create a service delivery model that will lead our youth to an “empowered and hopeful” destination because they “do matter.”
