SHELBY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ISSUES COUNTYWIDE “SHELTER IN PLACE” ORDER

Mayor Lee Harris joins municipal leaders and issues Shelter in Place Executive Order for unincorporated areas

MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County Health Officer Dr. Bruce Randolph and Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter have issued a formal health directive to all Shelby County residents to “protect the public health [and] prevent the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).” This directive comes after the State of Tennessee reported and 784 cases of novel coronavirus in Shelby County.

Additionally, County Mayor Lee Harris issued a “Safer at Home” Executive Order that is in alignment with the seven municipal mayors. Harris’ Executive Order applies to Unincorporated Shelby County and must be renewed every seven days.

The Health Department Executive Order expires after thirty days unless extended by the Shelby County Health Officer and Health Director.

“Our municipal mayors and Shelby County Government are united in our efforts to slow the spread of novel coronavirus in our community,” says Mayor Lee Harris. “We are asking Shelby County residents to take these necessary precautions to ensure that our hospitals continue to have the capacity to serve residents with the greatest need. This effort will take all of us working together. We are now calling on Desoto, Crittenden, and other surrounding counties to join Shelby County and encourage your residents to remain Safer at Home.”
