Shelby County Health Department Environmental Health Service Changes

For the Week of Friday, August 21 – Monday, August 31, 2020

SHELBY COUNTY, TN – In order to better serve the public, the Health Department is relocating all of its environmental health programs to one location: 1826 Sycamore View Road. The co-location of all environmental health programs including Vector Control, Environmental Health and Food Safety, Air and Water Quality, as well as Lead Prevention, will improve access to services for the public and improve collaboration on environmental health issues.

While we are very excited to announce the transition, the Health Department will be making some adjustments in environmental services during the upcoming week. Those changes include:

The Shelby County Health Department’s Environmental Health and Food Safety permit office at 814 Jefferson Avenue will close at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 and reopen on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

The permit office handles permit applications and permit/license renewals for restaurants, food trucks, body art (tattoo) salons, hotels, swimming pools, daycares, and schools. The Health Department asks permit holders to please plan ahead and conduct their permit office business during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020.

The Health Department’s Mosquito Control Program will postpone planned mosquito control activities (truck spraying) for the week of August 24 – August 28, 2020. Mosquito Control activities will resume on Monday, August 31, 2020.

“Please bear with us as we make this transition. While there will be some inconveniences over the next week as we move, ultimately we will be able to better serve Shelby County through the new location,” said Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter.
