SHELBY COUNTY DIVISION OF CORRECTIONS SET TO CELEBRATE
“BACK TO SCHOOL” FOR JUSTICE INVOLVED CHILDREN
Memphis, TN – On Thursday, September 3, 2020, the Shelby County Division of Corrections, in partnership with The Life Church, will celebrate the back to school season with some of our most vulnerable students, the children of incarcerated parents.
Back to School is a long-held tradition across America. While we recognize that this year looks a bit different from recent years, we do not believe that this should be a barrier to connecting incarcerated parents to the children who love them or the "back to school" process. On Thursday, September 3, 2020, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, the Division of Corrections will host a Back to School Drive Through.
The Life Church has generously donated not only 120 fully stocked backpacks for these offenders’ school-aged children but will also send each child or family home with an additional supply of much-needed goods and supplies. During this parade, the children will have an opportunity to drive-through to view and receive colorful posters and signs created by their parents, especially for them as a part of the programming here at SCDC.
While we are aware that this might not be a traditional back to school event, we believe by investing time into these 120 justice-impacted children and continuing to be a vehicle for connectivity and service at Shelby County Division of Corrections; we also serve the greater Shelby County community and its families.
