SHELBY COUNTY MAYOR LEE HARRIS AND THE SHELBY COUNTY COMMISSION TO RECOMMEND $3.4 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL COVID-19 RELIEF FOR 6 SHELBY COUNTY MUNICIPALITIES
The $3.4 million is in addition to the $6 million Shelby County provided to the municipalities earlier this year.
Shelby County, TN – Mayor Lee Harris announced that Shelby County Government will set aside an additional $3.4 million in COVID-19 funding to provide relief to six Shelby County municipalities amidst the current coronavirus pandemic. The $3.4 million is in addition to the $6 million Shelby County provided to the municipalities in May of this year. Local municipalities with populations of less than 500,000 were not able to apply for the Federal CARES Act funding. The Shelby County municipalities slated to receive access to a portion of the funding provided by Shelby County Government, based on population, are Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Lakeland, Germantown, and Millington. The City of Memphis was previously awarded $113.6 million in COVID-19 relief funding.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris: “Collaboration between our administration and all of the municipalities has been a massive effort since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. We must continue to work together to get critical resources to the municipalities so that they can help put our communities on the path to safe recovery. This virus does not recognize the boundaries between our municipalities and neither do our efforts to slow the spread.”
Germantown Mayor Mike Palazzolo: “Since the start of the pandemic the coordination between myself, Mayor Harris and each of the municipal Mayors has been exceptional. We are grateful for the continued partnership and additional relief funding to address the public health emergency in Shelby County.”
