Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris: “Shelby County remains committed to supporting veterans and their families in every way possible. With over 52,000 veterans, our county has the largest veterans’ population in the state of Tennessee. I am proud that we have a Veterans Services Office where service officers stand ready to serve these heroes veterans every day. It is our duty and certainly our honor to serve and celebrate those who served us. Today’s presentation is another way to show our appreciation for their sacrifices.”
City of Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland: “While this year’s event may be a little different, the significance of why we do it—to say thank you—is as important as ever. I hope our veterans will take today as a small token of our appreciation for their service to our nation. Know how much my family and I, as well as the 650,000 residents of Memphis, appreciate you and the sacrifices you’ve made to allow us the freedoms we enjoy each day.”
